Several Means of Quality Evaluation Of Thermal Gap Pad and Thermally Conductive Adhesive

GLPOLY have 15 series of thermal interface materials. which series should be more recommend in 2020, that should be the thermal gap filler XK-S series and the thermal conductive structural adhesive XK-D series. Recently more be used in EV power batteries.

 

We talk about the quality of these two materials through 3 features finding out the differences between the good and low-grade materials.

 

1.Silicone oil bleed-out

 

Oil bleed out is the biggest culprit of the aging problem. The silicone molecule structure of XK-S series is "non-linear structure". In the kneading and stirring process, the molecules of raw materials through side chain reaction and chain extension reaction, which makes Thermal Gap Filler have high 3D stereoscopic obstruction, that means finished material molecular structure is stable, service life can be as long as 10 years.

 

If there is a high bleed-out of silicone oil in the material, there should be too much uncross-link chains strucure in the finished material, or without good compatible to thermal conducting powder, bring down the finished material stability.

XK-D series are silicone free materials and will not happen the silicone oil bleed-out.

 

2. Viscosity Test

Rheological property with high viscosity. After 1: 1 two-component mixed extrusion, applied by stress to fully filling the gap, even the vibration test, the material still maintains extremely high filling property, no pump-out and deviate.

If the viscosity control is poor, the ratio of 1: 1 cannot be achieved and well applied to automatic dispensing machines.

 

3: Odor

The untreated thermal conductive powder is hydrophilic and its surface cannot be compatible with the filler. The low-cost, simple and easy-to-operate solution is to use dispersed additives, which have strong odor, may bleed-out and poor reliability.

The treatment with high cost with technique is powder surface modification, chemical bonding realizes high reliability and no smell.
