I received many application queries on thermal putty gel recently, in order to help customer select and apply thermal putty properly, I sorted out some frenquently asked questions for your reference.
1. What state is thermal gel? Will it cure?
Thermal gel is a liquid thermally conductive, electrical insulation gap filling material, it wets out interface decreasing contact thermal resistance and never cure or dry-out.
2. How about the volatilization?
Most of thermal gel has a high volatiles>0.05%, that means >500PPM, GLPOLY thermal gel is the only one that has a volatiles less than 0.01%, namely, <100PP in Chinese Market.
3. Does thermal conductivity of thermal gel decrease in long-running process?
It has a sxtremely low loss in long-term service, the change is less than 5% for high-end produts, GLPOLY thermal gel is verified with high termperature aging test.
4. Does thermal gel run like thermal silicone grease?
Thermal putty gel deflects under low compressive forces, but it never run like thermal silicone grease.
5. How do we dispense for to achieve better comformance?
It depends on applied area, a dot(s) for samll area and “W” shape for bigger area.
6. Does thermal gel provide adhesion?
Thermal gel provides natural-tack for ease of assembly, but adhesion is not strong enough to replace mechanical fasten.
7. What’s the range of thermal conductivity of GLPOLY thermal gel?
GLPOLY thermal gel provides an extensive range of thermal conductivity from 1.0W/mK to 8.0W/mK far beyond competitive products.
8. What gap thickness does thermal gel use to?
Thermal gel use to fill a variety of different gap thickness, the lowest bondline thickness is 0.09mm.
9. Will dispensing break in process?
It won’t break in dispensing process if the dispense routine is reasonable, GLPOLY thermal gel is fully vaccumed in production.
10. Is thermal gel a cost-effective solution?
It depends on thermal conductivity, the higher the thermal conductivity, the higher the price. But it is favorable for 3.0W/mK or below.
