Appropriate compression for thermal gap pad

2019-8-14 17:16:26   |   Source:GLPOLY   |   Author:GLPOLY   |   Views:

Soft thermal silicone pad is suitable for large institutional design tolerance because of good compressibility. GLPOLY thermal silicone pad has 20%-80% of compressibility, it is compliant to topography of component.

The thermal performance will be optimized after compressing. But what compression ratio should be appropriate for application? GLPOLY study shows that 30% of compression ratio is widely used in most of applications, there is no need to compress it to limitation. For example, if the gap is 0.8mm, we recommend the 1mm thickness silicone thermal gap pad.

We received many request for high compression ratio. For example, one of our customer ask a 60% compression for battery pack assembly, that requires extremely low hardness, maybe Shore00 10. Many manufacturers are ubable to make such a soft thermal pad with 2.0W/mK of thermal conductivity. It's not sophasticated to GLPOLY, but what we worried about is that such a soft thermal pad will be deformed easily when assembling by hand. We can't not request for one feature only, the most important thing is to find balance for handling, assemly and compression.

Thermal silicone pad is gel-like modulus, low hardness and designed for low stress application, it is ideal for fragile components.

GLPOLY thermal pad is environmentally-friendly product and meets all environmental requirements including RoHS.
