I knew many thermal management engineers struggled with thermal gap pad selection. That is because they did not know thermal interface materials much, and they could not select a suitable thermal gap pad with proper performance. Here I introduce a GLPOLY thermal gap pad XK-P20 with a wide range of application.
This series of thermal gap pad has a thermal conductivity range from 1.2W/mK to 5.0W/mK, it is suitable for most of applications.
What features does thermal gap pad XK-P20 series has a very low thermal resistance, for example, 2.0W/mK thermal gap pad in 0.5mm thick, its thermal resistance is 0.7 at 14.5Psi, 20% lower than competitors’. As we knew, the lower thermal thermal resistance, the better thermal performance, this is a critical, nonnegligible index that engineers concern.
From the point of view of hardness, it is optional from Shore00 40 to Shore00 70. Why do we fix such a hardness range? Because the gap and tolerance of applications are different required by different customers. Low hardness thermal gap pad provides a good compression rate, keeping contact close and improving heat transfer. Thermal gap pad with a shore00 70 hardness is easy to use, or rework in assembly, providing good functions of heat transfer and vibration dampening, comparing with many competitive products in China, they just provided one hardness, leaving customer no choice.
XK-P20 series has excellent electrical properties. The dielectric strength is greater than or equal to 10kV/mm, suiting to most of electronic chips. I think some competitors can make it, but most of Chinese suppliers failed to fulfill it with a six or seven kV/mm dielectric strength. Why can’t they do it? firstly, the raw materials is not good enough, secondly, the particle size is a little bigger.
Thickness of thermal gap pad is optional, from 0.5mm to 5mm. There was a auto customer requested a 33mm thick thermal pad. Why do they need such a thick thermal pad? mainly for vibration dampening. They need a soft, thick filler pad due to great tolerance. Though it’s 33mm thick, it still worked well. We provide customization service for customers, performannce or die-cut shape as requested.
Another critical index is siloxane, GLPOLY XK-P20 series provides a low volatile D4~D20 of 0.01% even lower. It is much lower than competing products. The volatile will affect performance or service life of products, GLPOLY thermal gap pad makes this possibility as low as possible.
