Why Do You Select Carrier Reinforced Thermal Gap Pad?
Many customers wanted to used a fiberglass reinforced thermal gap pad, do you know what kind of product it is?
Literally, fiberglass reinforced thermal gap pad is a thermal pad that reinforced by fiberglass on one side, two sides or in the middle of thermal gap pad. Generally, three types of fiberglass or fiberglasses of three thicknesses will be used by GLPOLY, 0.03mm, 0.1mm and 0.18mm thick. What are the differences and how to select?
Firstly, tensile strength should be confirmed. If customers need a strong tensile strength, they could select fiberglass in 0.1mm or 0.18mm thick. A 0.03mm thick fiberglass suits to medium tensile strength application.
Secondly, tolerance and roughness should be taken into account. If the thermal interface is rough and burred, a thicker thermal gap pad with 0.1mm or 0.18mm thick fibreglass reinforcement is recommended for high puncture resistance. If the interface is very smooth, we’ll suggest customers use thermal gap pad without carrier or 0.03mm thick fiberglass in the middle of thermal pad.
What else circumstances will thermal gap pad be used? For high requirement on electrical insulation. Generally, thermal gap pad without carrier has dielectric strength of 10kV/mm around, when it is reinforced by 0.18mm thick fiberglass, the dielectric strength will increase to 20kV/mm.

However, we can not add fiberglass or any other carrier to thermal gap pad optionally, because fiberglass or other carrier will increase thermal resistance, decreasing effect of heat transfer. In brief, we should make decision according to specific applications.
