6.0W/mK Thermal Gap Pad-Designed For Millimeter-wave Radar and Automotive Electronics Cooling

GLPOLY Conformable thermal gap pad XK-P60 is ideal for thermal management of millimeter-wave radar (referred to as mmw radar).

Millimeter radar is the critical part of pilot, massive data exchange will generates huge amount of heat.GLPOLY XK-P60 is such a thermal gap pad desinged to solve thermal management challenges.

One of our customers designed Tflex HD80000 in thermal management of mmw-radar. Generally,it was an excellent performance thermal gap pad with 6.0W/mK thermal conductivity and Shore00 40 hardness.Tflex HD80000 has a good compression rate, and wet out surface, improving heat transfer. Customer read the specification,he thought the data would meet the design requirements, but when he assembled Tflex HD80000 into components, he found the thermal pad deformed easily. Furthermore, customer found the thermal resistance was higher than data marked on specification. It meant that thermal performance was lower than what the supplier claimed.

I was not saying Tflex HD80000 was not a good thermal gap pad, thermal performance would be affected by many factors such as planeness, conformability, pressure, contact thermal resistance and more. Maybe this customer did not get the real thing. There were lots of brands of thermal pads and manufacturers, how could you be sure you got the real thing? Few of customers could test the thermal interface materials in house, they had no choice but to trust famous brands.

We recommended high deflection thermal gap pad XK-P60. For ease of handle, we made product a little harder, eliminating deformation issue. The service temeperature of PCB would stay at 80 Celsius degree, GLPOLY XK-P60 would be good enough with 6.0W/mK thermal conductivity,especially the 0.16℃in2/W thermal resistance was lower than Tflex HD80000.

Customer received samples in three days and carried out aging test for 1000 hours. The indexes change was less than 5% before and after aging test.Customer said it was the most reliable thermal gap pad he had tested ever.Now project is running SOP.
