GLPOLY Thermally Conductive Adhesive Used For 600 Battery Packs

GLPOLY themally conductive adhesives provide a range of thermal conductivity from 0.8~13.0W/mK, taking the top spot of on list of similar products in industry, just very few suppliers can make it.

Many competitors claimed that they could make thermally conductive adhesives with a high thermal conductivity and high strong bonding strength. It is responsible to say that it’s not true. Most of competitive products were epoxy based, they could make bonding strength very strong, but they could not enhance thermal conductivity abviously. With epoxy technologies, the thermal conductivity and viscosity were in inverse proportion. It meant that the thermal conductivity became low while viscosity increased and vice versa, this was a suspend problem in industry. GLPOLY had invested a lot of resource to develop thermally conductive adhesives for one year. After hundreds of test and adjustment, this problem has been overcome.

Last March, a chief engineer from a vessel company contacted me, inquiring about thermally conductive adhesives. He was suffering from lack of high performance thermally conductive adhesive for battery cell thermal management. The product he wanted should provide both high thermal and high bonding strength at the same time. After he explained his design requirements, I undertood what exactly he wanted. I recommended XK-D12 thermally conductive adhesive, this material was well suited for filling 1-2mm gap thickness. It would cure in 6-24 hours, customizing according to customers’ requirements.

After three-month test, GLPOLY XK-D12 thermally conductive adhesive emerged as the best one with high thermal perforance, high bonding strength and proper viscosity by comparing with five competitive products. Test report was available for reference. GLPOLY XK-D12 was introduced into BOM for trial production, now there were 600 battery packs had been assembled for trial production.

GLPOLY thermally conductive Adhesive XK-D12 is an structural adhesive for applications where a strong bonding strength is required, providing proven reliability under extreme temperature cycling. It eliminates the need of mechanical fasten, improving thermal contact. This material was compatible with high volume, automated dispense process.
