As technology advances, the intelligence of devices is improving. The devices must work at a high speed while providing smooth and efficient performance. For achieving this goal, engineers are working towards enhancing computational power in much more compact packages, thus generating more heat, leading to overheating. These smart devices generated great demand of efficient thermal management solutions as well as thermal interface materials.
For instance, in 2019, GLPOLY launched a performance thermal gel called XK-G40 for smart devices such as automotive electronics, AI speaker, logistics vehicle and robots. Second half of 2019, an AI speaker manufacturer contacted us, consulting about performance thermal interface materials, requesting assembly flexibility and cost effective. This customer designed a 4.0W/mK solution for his application. Based on design requirements, thermal gel would be a good choice. GLPOLY developed various thermal gels with thermal conductivity from 2.5W/mK to10.0W/mK, 5.0W/mK and more, unfortunately, 4.0W/mK thermal gel was missed. Customer accepted our suggestion and wished to try thermal gel, but he still insisted on using 4.0W/mK thermal interface material, and asked if we could develop 4.0W/mK thermal gel. This was a time-sensitive mission, we needed to develop and verified material in 15- business day.
It’s lucky we had successful experiences on thermal gel development, because we developed full range of thermal gel earlier 2109 for 5G telecom equipment, smartphone, and automotive electronics. We spent two days on development such as formula adjustment, trial production. We formulated an accelerated aging test at 180, 150 and 80 Celsius degree for 300hrs. 13 days later, we submitted test report to customer, all performances meeting requirements. Customer carried out function verification of product. All went well, change of data of thermal gel before and after test, temperature rise, state of thermal gel etc were even better than he expected. Now GLPOLY thermal gel XK-G40 has been applied to AI speaker in volume production for nearly two years.
GLPOLY thermal gel is a one component, non-curing, dispensble gao filling material designed to eliminate time consuming hand assembly, decreasing logistics complexity. It conforms under low compressive force, decreasing stress on component, thus decreasing component failures. GLPOLY XK-G series of thermal gel is compatible with high volume, automated dispense processes, accommodating a variety of bond line thickness.
